Other Female Singers 

Welcome to the last post :(.

To finish this blog, we chose an entry to explain two different artists: Doechii and Chappel Roan. These appeared to change the insutry and we could not be happier. 

Let's start with Doechii, you SURELY have listened to her even though you think you didn't, check DENIAL IS A RIVER, it was viral on Tiktok.

She started her career in 2016 with a song called Girls on SoundCloud under the name of IamDoechii, and in 2019 she released her debut EP called On the Places You'll Go. 

                                                        OH! And this is her by the way!!!!!

It was not until 2020 when the labels started being aware and pretty interested in her, after Yucky Blucky Fruitcake went viral on TikTok. The year after, in  2021, she featured in one of Isaiah Rashad's songs, and both performed in the 2021's BET Hip Hop Awards. Do you know what else she did in that year? She was openning SZA's shows for her tour. 

Isn’t that SO cool?!?!?

Some curious fact about the girl of the moment is that she is the FIRST FEMALE RAPPER to work with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). If you don't know what that is… let me tell you that this is THE discography for artist like Kendrick Lamar or even SZA. You know what they say…

CHAPPELL ROAN

Wow, we were really exited to write about this artist. Take a moment to think about what you know about her.

This QUEEN is well known for her aesthetic as I mentioned earlier, this aesthetic is influenced by the drag style, and — as she, herself, has said — she started wearing those extravagant makeups because in her neighborhood conservative people would call the homosexual people “clowns”, her performance is based in that as a queer artist that tries to claim for homosexual freedom.

Her career started when she was really young, at 14 she was already making songs but it was mot until she was 17 that she signed a contract with Atlantic Records, with whom in 2017 she released her first EP School Nights, however the same discography discarded the EP in 2020 due to the low demand of it. 

But this was not the end, as she left Atlantic Records to work independently and, in the same year (2020) she released Pink Pony Club which had been rejected by the discography before. This song was a complete SUCCESS and led her to her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess with another record Amusement Records. Guess what?!?!?!

This album was another success and it was considered one of the best album of the year by many lists. 

Now, what about the present??

 

In 2024 she was the opening act of the Guts World Tour by Olivia Rodrigo and the same year she performed in Coachella, as you can imagine this gave her even more appreciation by a whole new public of listeners. This led her to her single Good Luck, Babe! which reached the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 and get Chappell Roan to be nominated in many awards.

By the way, some people on social media joke by saying that this is the real life Hannah Montana because as she is always  wearing those extravagant makeups, when she is not wearing them she is almost unrecognizable. Here you have a picture.

Now that you have gone through the different classifications of female singers that we made, do you miss someone? Like... I don't know... MISS TAYLOR SWIFT?!?!?!

Did you think that we forgot about mom? but you know what they say... best for last!!!!!

As we all know, mom… I MEAN Taylor began her career in 2006 with her debut album Taylor Swift  as a country girl, with Big Machine Records. One of the songs of the album — Our song — made her the youngest person to write and sing a Hot Country Songs number-one single. Cheers for that, she has always been the moment.

She has received SO MANY awards that this blog would be very boring and monotonous, i will leave you a link here so that you can see all of them of you are interested. 

Later on, in 2008 she released Fearless which was a complete success, with songs as You Belong with Me that you MUST recognize —this same album was re-released again in 2021 because right after the Reputation album, her label tried to steal all her songs and sell them. I will explain that fondly in a few moments— . With this album, she won the Grammy Album of the Year being the youngest to get it a that moment. 

Two years later, in 2010, she released Speak Now —re-released in 2023–  which became the fastest selling digital album by a female singer by selling over ONE MILLION copies in the U.S.A. within the first week. 

In 2012 she changed her style by releasing Red, in this album —re-released in 2021– she mixed dance pop, pop and rock, in this album she achieved many titles and many recognition, for example We are Never Getting  Back Together was her first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100. 

Due to the success that she was having, she started featuring on other artists’ songs and she even wrote songs for films, for example she wrote two songs of The Hunger Games’ soundtrack: Eyes Open and Safe & Sound.  

Just some tea: in this era she was dating Harry Styles and some of the songs of the next album like Out Of the Woods or Style are rumored to be about him.

It’s 2014 and you move in to New York City. What do you do?? OF COURSE YOU WRITE AN ALBUM ABOUT IT.

She began to be criticized about writing too much about her love life, so when she moved to NYC she started writing about her new popular friends and her life there (still with some heartbreak songs like the ones about Harry). 

Guess what? She was still criticized for that because she “changed too much”. I am not even going to waste my energy commenting in that. 

However… Welcome to 1989!!! Her first official pop album which opened atop in the Billboard 200 with 1.28 million copies sold. WOW. This album was re-released in 2023.

You may recognize songs like Shake it Off or Blank Space even if you have never cared about her.

In 2017 she released Reputation, album in which she talked about a drama that she had with Kanye West and the Kardashian family because he jump in the scenario while she was grabbing an award to say the Beyoncé should have won and not Taylor. As they showed to the audience, they spoke and cleared things between them until the male rapper released Famous, in which Music Video there’s an inflatable doll that represents Taylor. 

The drama started because Kanye called Tay to ask her if he could release the song but he changed the lyrics while recording the conversation. He played her a sentence that was “I made her famous” and in the release song it said “I made that b*tch famous”. Taylor said publicly that she did NOT like the song and that she never agree to the Music Video nor to the lyrics of the song. 

Then, Kim Kardashian upload a video of Taylor accepting the song and the whole internet harassing her and calling her a snake, fomented by the Kardashian’s family. 

This led Taylor to disappear of the public eye for years (2015-2017).

Later on, this was all cleared and the real video without the edit that Kim did to the video. Thanks to that, Taylor’s name was cleared. 

The Reputation era was full of snakes and with a very dark ambience. However, she kept some love songs for those who stayed with her during that time. 

Here, she had another problem. Her label.

She had a contract with Big Machine Records and even though she wrote (or at least co-wrote) all her songs, she did not owned her songs. In 2019, Scooter Braun bought Big machine, which included Taylor’s masters and she didn’t have the opportunity to bought them, so she lost control of her own music. However, she decided to re-record and re-release those albums to own them. Every song and album that has “(Taylor’s Version)” next to it, is owned by her, thats why all the links that I put throughout this entry about her are hers. She even included songs “From the Vault”, songs that she wrote at that time but couldn’t release. 

In 2019, she released Lover, a very pinky and colorful pop album about true live, which aesthetic changed drastically to the one in Reputation. This album is HERS from the beginning, cheer with me please. 

In 2020, during lockdown, she released two albums that the fans call sisters Evermore and Folkore. 

She started re-recording in 2021, and in 2022 she released Midnights. God, this woman never stops. 

This album led to The Eras Tour, a 3 and a half hours show with songs from ALL of her albums —including The tortured poets department once it was released—, she sang 44 songs in each show plus two surprise songs that changed each night. This tour has been the most selling tour in HISTORY, over a billion dollars founded in the tour. WOW.

It was a complete success. 

However, it was also a very long tour, form march 2023 until december 2024. That woman is incredible.

Last but not least, in 2024 she released The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology. 

Now the fans are ALL waiting for Reputation Taylor’s Version AND Taylor Swift Taylor’s Version.
