 Spanish Singers

Spanish Singers have been talking and exposing feminist ideas for a long time now. In this group we can also include spanish-speaking singers from Latin America.
I'm going to approach this entry in chronological order, from older to newer artists.

The first singer that I'm going to discuss is Mónica Naranjo.

She started in music in the 1990s, releasing the album that marked her career "Palabra de Mujer", in this album she explores her own life experiences and the revival of the 90s divas. Later she released her most famous song "Sobrevivere"  dealing with themes like the inner strenght of women getting the liberty they always wanted, regarding love. This can be seen in the following lyrics:

No hay en el mundo, noNadie más frágil que yo
[...]
No hay en el mundo, noNadie más dura que yo

In this lyrics you can see the evolution of a women gaining strenght in order to get her final goal, which is liberty from a broken love.

The second singer I'm going to address is Rozalen

She is a composer, and she started to gain recognition since her beginnings in 2010. In 2017 she released the song that changed the female musical scene in Spain. She composed and released the song called "La puerta violeta" wich, with the name you should know what is it about, but if you don't let me explain it to you.
This song was a point of inflection in feminism, she is addressing directly the violence against women created by men, she is the first Spanish singer to describe and talk as raw as possibe about this situation, as in those times Spain was going through a lot of sexist violence leaving many women dead because of it. In this song she shows us that there is always an exit to this problem. This song is now an anthem to all of the victims of this kind of abuse.

Now I'm going to talk about two contemporary singers:
The third singer is going to be Rosalía

She is the most famous Spanish singer of the time, she appeared in music in 2016 although her music career started earlier. In her first album "El Mal Querer" she deals with her roots, exposing the "flamenco" a cultural tradition in Spain, this was received with such an honor from the Spanish audience getting her to the icon she is now. But when she released her second album "Motomami" she was heavily criticized as she changed fully her concept.

With this last album she changed completely the performance on stage in her shows by this she influence many other artists to include dancers and many other things. We might think that's why most of the female singers of our time have this mass productions on stage (like Olivia Rodrigo, Karol G...) because since this tour she change the perception of women performance on stage. She showed everyone that women can evolve and that they do not stick to only one role.
She also contribute to a change in the stereotypes of love songs. In "Motomami" she wrote a love song called "Como un G" when people listened to this song they thought that she was talking about a past love, about a men, but instead she was only showing the deep love that she has to her sister, which many critics show it as something weird. She also contributed to gay love, talking about relationships between women for example in "Tuya", leaving aside the stereotypoes of heterosexual love, showing that the love that women have is not only for men.

The last singer I'm going to talk about is Bad Gyal

She is one of the most important female contemporary Spanish singers among the youth in Spain and she also has influence in other countries as London, Los Angeles, Brasil...
She started in the music industry in 2016, from humble begginings to the spotlight, that's one of the main reasons she was criticize from being nothing to being everything, this thought was mainly spread by men as they could not understand how a women could end in such a high position with nothing really.

One of her most know controversies was when she realesed a track called "Zorra" word used in Spain to taunt women, as they were always the ones cheating, the ones going out with 10 different men in one night. But she used this and turned the table, in the song she is describing a men with all those qualities that they usually give to women. For men this was a huge insult, but in reality she got what she wanted, that is the men to feel what women usually feel.

Despite all of this she is one of the youngest female singers in Spain to contribute to the freedom of expression and freedom of sexuality both in her songs and in her performances. With this she did a lot for Spanish community, and many young ladies rely on her stretgh and on her self confidence as a role model.
